Advice from Seniors…Folarinle (Flo) Fasida (Univ. Campus, Class of 2012)

2012 Graduating Senior, Flo Fasida

What was your experience as a psychology major at Saint Leo University?

My experience as a psychology major was an eye opening experience. It was interesting to learn how everything in life has a meaning, but also connected. The things you learn in your psychology courses can be applied to everyday or create eventful topics at the dinner table.

What would you say about senior seminar (PSY 499) class?

Senior Seminar is a class that covers everything you could possibly learn as a psychology major, but it is all about application. Just like the Internship Practicum, Senior Seminar, especially with Dr. Shannon Farris, allows you to apply the theories and the people you learn about to modern times and in depth class discussions.

What would your advice be to the freshmen, sophomore and junior?

The advice I leave my fellow students is remember that when you go out into the working world you are no longer representing yourself, but Saint Leo University and the psychology professors who have taught you well. So remember to pay attention to every little detail they tell you in class because you never know when it may become the most important lesson you ever learned.

Aixa Marcial ’12 (Univ. Campus)

What was your experience as a psychology major at Saint Leo University?
I had a wonderful experience as a psychology major. The classes were intellectually challenging and fun! The teachers are always available for help and open to talk about anything. I really learned a lot about myself and from others.

What would you say about your Senior Seminar (PSY 499) class?
Senior Seminar was a challenging, yet intellectually stimulating class. It prepares you to think about everything possible in the past, the present, and in the future.

What would your advice be to the freshmen, sophomore and junior?
Some words I leave behind are to take advantage of every opportunity the psychology department has to offer. If not, you will miss out on the full experience of being a psychology major. Take the time to talk with your professors because they WANT to help you. Use the classroom as your playground to utilize your skills, which include writing, speaking, thinking and dressing professionally.

Dr. Shannon Farris & Esther Garnier (Sr. 2012)

I had a wonderful experience as a Psychology Major. There are many opportunities to do research with any of the professors. They all really are about us individually.

What would you say about your Senior Seminar (PSY 499) class?

Senior Seminar was a really challenging class, in terms of creating a project and applying what we learned to a current life issues. But Dr. Farris made it fun and exciting.

What would your advice be to the freshmen, sophomore and juniors?

Take advantage of the professors. They answer emails, facebook, and text messages and make sure you talk with them about anything that is going on with you. Whenever you have presentations, dress PROFESSIONALLY! No shorts, short skirts, or sandals. Respect your teachers and yourself enough to wear a nice blouse along with closed toe shoes with slacks or a knee-length skirt; men wear slacks and a clean dress-shirt, no sandals tennis shoes or a polo.
