Achieving Success Online, Brick by Brick

Little Pig
Posted by Mary Beth Erskine on Wed, Feb 27, 2013

To be a successful online student, take advantage of academic resources early in your college career.

We all know what happened to the two little pigs who built their houses out of straw and sticks.

One puff from the big, bad wolf and “poof.”

Gone.

We also know that the third little pig built his house out of bricks.

He understood that a solid foundation would enable him to prevail when the wolf came knocking on his door. So he took a proactive approach. Even though it cost him more time and energy upfront, he believed the investment was worth it.

Be proactive: take advantage of academic resources.

The same principle applies to academic success. Build a firm foundation right from the start, and you’ll be able to withstand the winds of rigorous courses and stand triumphant, degree in hand.

Do that by taking advantage of academic resources early in your college career.

For example, before your first paper is due, do you know the best way to conduct research online? How to tackle one of those intimidatingly long and complex scholarly journals? Or how you can use Turnitin to help sharpen your paraphrasing, quoting, and stylistic skills?

To enable Saint Leo University students to answer “yes” to those questions, psychology faculty member Dr. Shannon Farris created eCOACH Online Learning.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

In July we shared the idea of establishing an endowed scholarship fund in honor of our friend and colleague, Dr. Patrick Draves, who passed away ten months ago. Today, we are pleased to share with you progress that has been made toward the goal of $10,000, the amount needed to fund an endowed scholarship at Saint Leo. We are most grateful to all who have honored Patrick’s memory and his commitment to scholarship, teaching, and his students with their gift to the fund. Memorial gifts received from Patrick’s colleagues, former students, family, and friends total $8,475.

Only $1,525 is needed to endow the scholarship, in which one $500 research scholarship will be given to one student each year. It isn’t too late for your gift to be added to the fund!

Please join us today by sending your gift to the Dr. Patrick Draves Memorial Endowed Scholarship.

Sincerely,

Dr. Rich Bryan

Help! Research Participants Needed

Photo: smartnetstrategies.com

Dr. Zacchilli and Chantal Hayden are conducting a study on the role social media plays in the job search and they need your help!

The survey is completely anonymous and should take between 10-15 mins.   Plus, it involves looking at photos so it shouldn’t be the typical boring survey.
